Reference Requests

Some assistance with research is available remotely for researchers. We can provide answers on specific questions or topics, with limited research support for broader queries. If the reference question proves too large for our staff, we will ask that you visit the reading room in person to conduct the research yourself. Informational queries are welcome through our online query system.

Research Visits

We welcome researchers from around the world to visit us in the Scheide Reading Room (Wright Library, 2nd Floor). You do not need to be a member of the Princeton Seminary community to research in the archives.

We require that all visitors make an appointment ahead of time and visit during our open hours: Tuesday through Thursday, 10:00am-3:00pm each week.

Scanning

In order to support researchers remotely, the Special Collections & Archives department offers limited scanning services. We have a small staff, so those requests are considered on a case-by-case basis and may not be able to be fulfilled. Small scan requests, such as pamphlets, archival documents, and photographs, are most likely to be filled. Larger requests of full books or archival collections are not accepted at this time. Prior to requesting a scan, please check to see if the item you are seeking has already been scanned and is available through Theological Commons.

Publishing

High resolution scans for presentations and publications are available for a nominal fee. We offer scans up to 600 dpi in JPEG, PDF, and TIFF formats. All publication requests must be accompanied by a signed Permission to Publish form. To learn more, and download a copy of the form, visit our Permission to Publish page.

Class Visits

Each year, the Special Collections & Archives department welcomes undergraduate and graduate students to visit the archives as part of their classes. We welcome faculty members from Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton University, and other nearby schools to make an appointment for their classes to visit the archives. To set up a time to visit with your class, please email us at special.collections@ptsem.edu with your class topic, schedule, class size, and other pertinent information.

Tours

The Special Collections & Archives department is open to providing tours for visitors, alumni, faculty, students, church groups, etc. Access for tours may be limited due to our open research hours, but you are welcome to request a tour. We will do our best to accommodate tour visits in conjunction with our research and business hours.
